114 years

Odd title?  Well, yes it is.  But, today would have been my grandmother's (dad's mom) 114th birthday.  She died one week before her 76th birthday in 1974.  Grandma King was the only grandparent I knew.  Daddy's father died at the age of 48; Daddy was only 11.  Mother's father died eight days before she was born teaching someone to fly an airplane in 1932.  Her mother died 15 years later from cancer. After taking Daughter #6 for an ortho appointment today, we decided to go to the cemetery to visit Mother's grave.  I know only her old, tired body rest beneath the earth, but sometimes I just need to go and "visit".  My best friend's brother and mother are buried not even a stones throw from my mom.  Our mothers were born about eight days apart, and their deaths are only seven days apart, though the date are several years different.  So I went to visit/check on my friend's family graves.  The weather has bee...

Thankful Day 21

I am thankful for friends.  I am thankful for good friends.  You know the kind, the ones that stick with you no matter what.  (Kind of like peanut butter and jelly.)  They listen and know your heart.  You can go without seeing them for a while and pick up right where you left off. Hey friends, I am thankful for you!

What is Rich?

How many times have we, speaking in general, complained that "we have nothing".  We say, "We're so poor!"  "I wish I had (fill in the blank) . "  Children want the latest gaming system, teens want a better i-pod/cell phone, young adults want ' nice' now, forgetting their parents had to actually WORK for the nice things, and adults want a better vehiclel, home, vacation, and the list goes on. Last evening a friend brought a couple girls from their church over to our home.  They are about 8 and 11 years old.  They had been doing some cleaning for her to earn money for church camp.  Since she was going to feed them supper, she decided to get some pizza and bring enough for our little family also.  This would give the girls a chance to meet some new friends and not have to eat with "old" people. :-)  They were very surprised to see we had two bathrooms.  They only have one, and I think 7 total in their family....

Put Away the Old, Bring Out the New

If anyone has ever misled you that being a home educator is easy, let me lead you into the right path!  It is not!  I do not have time right now to give all the ins and outs of home education, but let me give just an insight to the title above, "Put Away the Old, Bring Out the New". Our school year has been over for a little over a week.  I am JUST now getting to removing the old material and putting out the new for 2011/2012 school year.  I had hopes-high hopes, I might add-to have the "lockers" {12 cube bookshelf} ready to go last Wednesday, the day following Daughter #2's graduation.  But life is busy and Momma fell short of the goal!  Now, I already felt bad because I did not accomplish what I felt I needed to have done.  But a 'friend' came over one evening last week and asked if I had redone the "lockers".  When I told her no, she stated that she didn't think so, because they did not look any different than before.  I could have cri...
