Wonderful Weekend

Friday and Saturday was the 2013 Indiana Home Educators' Convention.  Hubby and I have been home educating and discipling  our nesters for a total of 16 years.  This is the first convention that we have ever attended.  It was wonderful!  It was held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, not far from our home. We went with some very good friends of ours while our nesters babysat their four little ones.

A few highlights of the convention:

It was wonderful to see some of the political leaders of Indiana come and speak at the convention.  What a blessing to know that there are political leaders that recognize that educating children belongs to the parents and are willing to stand in the gap and help us keep this right.  Not to mention a friend of ours, Eric Miller from Advance America who informs and educates the people of Indiana about our state government and issues that are important to us.

I was able to meet four wonderful, godly ladies that I follow through blogs!  Robin Brookshire who blogs at resolvedtobe.com/; her daughters, Breezy, breezytulip.com/blog, and Emily Rose, simplyvintagegirl.com/.  I also met Jacqueline who blogs at deeprootsathome.com/, who just happens to be a friend of the Brookshire family.  Let me just say that the love of the Lord spills out of these women!  They were every bit of sweet that I perceived they were from their blogs.  They have been a blessing to follow and I am so thankful that I had a chance to meet these ladies!

The convention booths were amazing.  I was able to meander through and soak in all the information that was available.  Our family has found over the years A Beka Academy works best for us.  We have worked with some others over the 16 years of home educating, all very good, but our choice is A Beka.  We went to visit our area representative for A Beka and while talking with him we were very sad to hear one of our children's favorite video teachers had passed away!  Mrs. Sandra Schmuck had passed away in October of 2011!  We had no idea!  It has been very sad for our scholars who have had her and will have her.  One of our daughters was telling me today that she can remember some little thing that Mrs. Schmuck use to say and she wanted to cry.  Our video teachers have become part of our family!  Some have been part of our lives for the last six years and will continue to be for the next 6-8 years!

I think the time we spent with our friends at the convention was a huge blessing!  They are a young couple who have been serving the Lord in Edinburgh, Indiana.  It is so refreshing to know that even though our ages are 18 to 25 years apart, we can encourage each other, not just in home education, but also in things of the Lord.

It was a wonderful two days!  I am so thankful that we were able to go to the conference!

Let me give a "shout-out" to my nesters.  We could not have gone to the conference if it wasn't for you!  Thanks for working so well together and taking care of the four little ones left in your charge!  You are the greatest!

My Mother's Gentle Love

My Mother's Gentle Love by Ron Hamilton Who puts a band-aid on my knee? Who holds me close so tenderly? Who always sees the best in me? There’s no one like mother. Who always wipes my tears away? Who tells me I’ll be great some day? Who cares in such a gentle way? There’s no one like mother. My mother’s gentle love, my mother’s gentle love Has taught me of God’s tender care, and turned my eyes above. I’ll bless her all my days for all her gentle ways. Oh, how I thank my Lord above for my mother’s gentle love. Today is my mother's viewing, and tomorrow is her funeral.  The song above so much describes my mom.  She loved her four children so very much!  Before she had children, she was a nurse for "special care" babies~~"old" term for NICU.  Once she started having children she gave  up her career to stay at home and raise her own babies. Thanks, Mom! Thank you, Daddy, for allowing Mom to stay at home and raise us four children! My mother and her mo

Life....

Busy.  That seems to describe life in our home.  Just day to day busy.  Nothing really noteworthy.  Life moves on.   Let me think, since I last posted.... well, let me back up to about a month before my last post.  Daughter #6 got married in October of 2022...today Son #7 got married.  So, I have gained another son and another daughter! Our youngest graduated from high school in May and our oldest grandchild graduated the following day!  From our oldest child to our youngest, we have 33 years of education. (I'm tired just thinking about it!!) Still only 13 grandchildren.  Hubby is still in education.  I keep things going on the home front.  I help out the families where and when needed.  I still make cards for the card ministry that I have been doing for 19 years.  I still crochet.   That about sums up life at this point.  Have a wonderful day!

Remembering Mom

Eleven years ago, today, my mom entered the gates of heaven.   My heart still breaks, hurts, and grieves.  But I know I will see her one day.  It seems like it has been a lifetime.  My youngest was only 6 1/2, now she is 17 1/2, a senior in high school and trying to choose between two colleges.  My oldest was 26 with young children and now is 37 and his crew is growing up too quickly!   My oldest grandchild was 6 and now is 17 and a senior in high school.  My youngest grandchild was only 6 weeks old and now is eleven.  Eight of my thirteen grandchildren have been born since that day.    Mom Mom's Viewing My children, taken about 6 weeks before  Mom died. I miss you, Mom!
